Snip it from the paper.
Get LaTeX that compiles.
CatchTeX turns tables, equations, plots, diagrams and reference lists from PDFs and screenshots into clean, editable LaTeX, ready to paste into Overleaf. Everything runs offline on your own computer.
Windows 10 and 11 (64-bit) · no TeX installation needed · your papers never leave your PC

Three steps, no retyping
Stop copying numbers and symbols by hand. Point CatchTeX at the part of the paper you need.
Open the PDF or snip the screen
Drag a box over the table, formula or figure in the built-in PDF viewer, or press Ctrl+Alt+T to snip from any app.
CatchTeX reads it
Auto mode recognises what you selected. From a PDF, the characters are read from the file itself, so numbers and symbols come out exact.
Copy LaTeX that compiles
Check the rendered preview, fix anything in the code editor, and copy an Overleaf-ready table, figure or equation.
One tool for everything in a paper
Seven modes, each producing the LaTeX you would have written yourself.
Tables
Rows, columns, merged headers and maths inside cells. Cells the reader is unsure of are marked for you to check.
Equations
Display or inline, with your choice of \[ \], equation, $$ and more. Keep the paper's number as \tag.
Plots
Axes, ticks, labels and the actual data points, measured from the figure. Not a picture: real, editable data.
Diagrams
Block diagrams and flowcharts with boxes, summing junctions, arrows and labels, laid out like the original.
Text
Paragraphs and captions with maths, accents and hyphenation handled correctly.
References
Turn a reference list into BibTeX and check every entry against Crossref, dblp, arXiv and OpenAlex.
Auto mode
Just snip. CatchTeX decides whether it is a table, equation, plot, diagram or text, and tells you if a snip looks wrong.
Optional AI assistant
For very dense diagrams, connect Anthropic, OpenAI, Gemini or OpenRouter with your own API key. Off by default.
Why researchers use CatchTeX
Exact from PDFs
When you open the PDF, CatchTeX reads the text the file contains instead of guessing from pixels.
Checked by compiling
A complete pdfLaTeX is built in. Every result is compiled and previewed before you copy it.
Private by design
Recognition runs offline on your PC. Unpublished papers and data never leave your computer.
Honest about doubt
Uncertain table cells are highlighted and a notice explains when a snip could not be read well.
Overleaf-ready
Copies a full table or figure with caption, label and the packages it needs.

Questions
Do I need to install LaTeX?
No. CatchTeX includes its own pdfLaTeX to preview and check every result. The LaTeX you copy works in Overleaf, TeX Live, MiKTeX or any other distribution.
Are my papers uploaded anywhere?
No. Recognition runs on your computer. The app only goes online when you check references against public databases or when you switch on the optional AI assistant with your own key. See the privacy policy.
How accurate is it?
From a PDF, text and numbers are read from the file itself and are usually exact. From screenshots, CatchTeX uses offline OCR and a maths model; it marks cells it is unsure of and shows a compiled preview, so you can check before you copy. Always proofread before submitting.
Does it work on Mac or Linux?
Not yet. CatchTeX is currently for Windows 10 and 11.
Can I use Pro on my laptop and my office PC?
Yes, one Pro licence works on 2 computers. To move it to a new computer, deactivate it on an old one in Settings › Licence. After reinstalling Windows, write to us and we reactivate it.
Does Pro need the internet?
Only once per computer, to activate. A computer without internet can be activated by e-mail: copy its computer code from Help › Copy computer code and send it to us with your order key. After that CatchTeX works fully offline.
Can I get a refund?
Pro is not refundable, so please try the free edition first: it has every feature, only limited to 10 snips a day (and no limit during the beta). If Pro does not work on your computer as described and we cannot fix it, write to support@catchtex.com and we will find a solution.
What happens when the beta ends?
The beta (version 0.9) stops reading snips after 30 November 2026. Install version 1.0 from this page: it keeps the free edition (10 snips a day) and adds CatchTeX Pro. Your settings carry over.
Is this a subscription?
No. Pro is a one-time purchase that includes every 1.x update. A future 2.0 may be a paid upgrade, and your version keeps working.
